Pushing the boundaries of high-resolution imaging!

At LAB Motion Systems, we take great pride in designing and manufacturing high-precision motion systems that push the boundaries of research and innovation. One of our most advanced developments, the BM18 large-capacity rotation stage, has played a key role in a groundbreaking achievement at ESRF – The European Synchrotron.

Recently, the UCL team, in collaboration with Paul Tafforeau, Alexandre Bellier, Stefan Zwingenberger, and Tim Bray, successfully conducted the world’s highest resolution scan of a whole human spine using HiP-CT (Hierarchical Phase-Contrast Tomography). This revolutionary imaging technique allowed them to scan an ex vivo spine with remarkable precision—achieving voxel resolutions of approximately 10 microns for the entire structure and as fine as 2 microns in selected regions.

These incredible levels of detail are essential for advancing research into bone diseases such as osteoporosis and osteoarthritis. By comparing HiP-CT data with MRI scans, the researchers aim to gain new insights into these conditions, improving diagnostic capabilities and potentially influencing future treatments. The ability to visualize intricate internal structures at such high resolutions opens up new possibilities in medical imaging and biomedical research.

As the manufacturer of the BM18 rotation stage, we are honored to contribute to this groundbreaking work. The ability to precisely rotate and position samples of up to 300 kg with exceptional stability is critical for achieving such high-quality imaging results.

We extend our congratulations to everyone involved in this pioneering research and look forward to seeing the impact these findings will have in the medical and scientific communities.

At LAB Motion Systems, we remain committed to supporting innovation through precision engineering. Exciting times ahead!
